Dissonance in D

Score

Perhaps the most odd piece I’ve ever written, Dissonance in D explores far less used techniques for string quartet, such as “noodling”. I felt like writing a string quartet around Halloween time, so obviously I decided to write a really spooky, dissonant, odd piece. The sudden contrasts from the eerie “noodling”, to aggressive, attack-like, dissonant chords, are essentially jump scares. The piece also explores Varese-like ideas, through the “sound collages” of intense rhythms without purpose.
